KIT207 Portfolio - Self Study 5
This week is the last week we have to any self study (wooo)
This week involved learning about the importance of lighting in games as well as how to add lighting to your scenes inside of unity.
First we had to follow a tuorial by Brackeys where we had to add lighting to a small room. (tutorial link: https://youtu.be/VnG2gOKV9dw)
I found this quite interesting and i never realised how easy adding lighting acttually was. Here is a screenshot of my lit up room based on the tutorial:
After we had completed the tutorial we had to add lighting into our scene that we had been working on in the last few weeks. I decided to add a bit of lighting into the scene provided which i made the simple game in. I did this because i was a bit strapped for time and i thought my scene was a bit to empty for it.
Here is a screen shot of my scene before any lighting:
As mentioned above I didnt have much time to do this self study before the tutorial so i kept it pretty simple.
Firstly i made the health packs i created light up with an intense light, next i added lighting to the barriers around the platform and finally i created some "lightpoles" similar to street lights. I then adjusted the ambient lighting and the directional lighting to make the whole scene a little bit dark, I then baked the lightmap and this is the result:
My goal of this lighting was to add a dark theme to my simple game. I think the lighting is a little too intense, especially the health packs but i think it was a good start to achieve what i wanted. Given more time i would implement this.
Thank you for reading my self study Devlog!
Nathan.
